Just 21 miles from downtown Fort Worth in southeastern Tarrant County, Mansfield, TX, has become an attractive market for home buyers. Mansfield offers a low crime rate, excellent schools, convenient shopping, access to nearby lakes and recreation areas, and affordable cost of living. This rolling expanse of oak groves along Walnut Creek received its first wave settlers in the 1840s. While fighting the Comanche, they still managed to establish a small community with a school and church. R.S. Man and Julian Feild brought in a three-story grist mill to produce flour and corn meal. This was the first mill in North Texas to be powered by steam. Feild also opened a general store/inn/post office. The town grew during the Civil War years despite economic challenges and ongoing Indian wars. The community around the Man and Feild Mill took on the name Mansfeild, but repeated misspellings over the years eventually resulted in acceptance of the name Mansfield.
Today, Mansfield continues to grow and prosper. It isaccessible to DFW International Airport (25 miles) and Alliance Airport, six Interstate highways, 10 U.S. highways and 19 state highways. Many technical, vocational and advanced education institutions are located nearby. The average value of a new single-family home was $192,592 in 2008. More than half the 57,000 residents are between the ages of 20 and 59, and 86 percent are families. Plenty of undeveloped land still exists and quality housing developments have been carefully planned. Forcasts indicate that Mansfield's population will be more than 76,600 by 2015 and there is enough land to almost double that number in the future. Buying a home in Mansfield promises one of the best values for your housing dollar in DFW.
